History

#1 Updated by planetmaker over 9 years ago

Just looking at those sprites, I like the crispy version A best.

#2 Updated by athanasios over 9 years ago

C or B. But I'd like to see a screen shot. A IMO might be very bright.

#3 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

After some considerations, I think I will choose B, so it can be replaced now.

I think, we need some other sprites here. :-)

those are used for most ground on houses and industries

why brown dust? Why not something concretish? Looking nice with roads...

#10 Updated by 2006TTD over 8 years ago

The reason why I chose brown is because of the current brown colour of the tile.
Anyway, here is a variation on the tile - this time concrete flavoured.
Colours taken from airport asphalt in the airport, hence the image of arctic climate.
I pasted the tile into toyland and it looks ok for me.

#11 Updated by athanasios over 8 years ago

IMO it doesn't fit at all with toyland.

It is better to use a hue that is exactly the same with the color of the road pavement. A couple of individual tiles within the sprite could vary more or less though (like original).

#12 Updated by 2006TTD over 8 years ago

Which colour (can be other than brown or grey) should be used in toyland? I can produce more variations.
Or should the crazy paving tiles be scraped?

  • File toyland_i_h_ground_tile_attempt_01.png added

#14 Updated by athanasios over 8 years ago

  • File ingame_screenshot.png added

And a screenshot. (As I said contains action colors I will remove another time-my free time is over...)

#15 Updated by 2006TTD over 8 years ago

It looks fine, but will it look like mud?
Anyway, I am looking forward to the version which is converted to palette colours.

Sprite's base texture is the already existing one (ogfx) with above grid added (slightly modified for a better isometric illusion) and effects added. How does it look like? Pebbles from mud or not? Making them more elevated (3D-ish)would make them look like beans though-coffee. Better avoid it. Original TTD is like pebbles. Nevertheless Toyland has its own logic.

Even if we drop this sprite for something else, I hope it will prove useful somewhere in toyland ogfx+.

The red patch seems too big, maybe make it halved?
If possible, the red colour should be shaper so that it distinguishes from the brown colour.
The green patch could be a little bit larger.
The blue one is fine.

athanasios, just for info, you missed the time, when we changed sprite format from pcx to png ;-)

also there are 2 sprites (4675, 4676):

I colored at random after creating the tile, so that gave the inconsistency in size of colored patches. Also some patches are a bit long to give the isometric illusion.
Red is of almost same hue with rest of tile (brown and not gray as in original TTD) so difference is subtle. Also IMO subtle color changes fit more with road pavements. Blue and oil-green stand out more though.

2006TTD, can you please draw the corrections you mentioned and provide a sprite & a screenshot?

Aware that grfcodec accepts pngs, but 'palconvert' doesn't accept png's though :-( . Or is there a newer version/or other similar applet?

Aware of the second sprite, but don't have time at the moment for it. Anyway, for variety, in ogfx+ we could aim for more than 2 (is that possible only with grf code or we need patching?)!

#24 Updated by Ammler over 8 years ago

before we think about more than 2, we should have 2 ;-)

Some Adjustments

Since I like this tile best and nothing has been done with it this issue for 6 months, I implemented this. In r708.
