sprites 4737 - 4742

I still think that the glass being filled as nicely animated with Zuu's version is a very nice effect. Compared to this, this version is lacking, same goes with the "surroundings" which need quite some more love with this version. The clear pro of this version is the can itself which is clearly superior; personally I'd attach the tap higher, but it could (should?) be further up anyway for better optics (and the possibility to fit a glass / bottle / smaller can beneath it. But then the tap should(?) be a separate sprite anyway.

Attached the sprites being used currently: sprites of empty and filled can, two(?) construction stage(s) and an additional sprite which here is used as sign.

#2 Updated by zephyris over 9 years ago

I'll have a go at a few construction stage sprites at some point... I didn't realise there were any!

#3 Updated by athanasios over 9 years ago

IMO tap could go higher and place another tank/cup underneath. Also tap would look better at a different direction and not parallel-perspective would be better, but I suspect it is not easy to do, if doable at all.

#4 Updated by zephyris over 9 years ago

A different angle on the tap would be perfectly possibly (it is all full 3D) but wouldn't really fit on the tile...

#5 Updated by athanasios over 9 years ago

That's what I had in mind, it wouldn't be easy to fit.

Has anyone ordered OpenGFX Soda?
Enjoy! :-)

Note: The sign with company colours supported is preferred.

Sorry for the delay. Now enjoy! :-)

#8 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

In the forums, planetmaker suggested colouring the smiley. I would like to ask whether two CC is supported in this sprite.

By the way, the concept:
Smiley - It acts as a coin to be inserted into the slot, just like a vending machine.
Cup - inspired by the original sprite to hold the drinks pouring out.

I think this will sure look better in the game.

CC smiley has arrived! Both CC and non-CC versions available in the attached file.

:-) !

I think that in 4772 the part of the tap under the handle gives the impression that it is not so isometric (Of course "currently used ones" were not at all, so you did a great job!)

better?

#13 Updated by planetmaker about 9 years ago

It feels like the can and glass are a bit squeezed; especially the glass nearly falls off the tile. If it moved a bit so that the can, tap and glass were a bit more diagonally aligned, it'd fit better. But that might require some re-touching of the sprites, especially of the tap.

But the tap anyway looks a bit oblique, not quite properly in perspective, so that it might need graphical re-touch anyway.

Besides these arguments, the new version is a win.

it might be better, but I am not really satisfied.

What is this coin for?

Edit: looks like a build stage:

#15 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

I have mentioned it in post 8.
the concept:
Smiley - It acts as a coin to be inserted into the slot, just like a vending machine.
Cup - inspired by the original sprite to hold the drinks pouring out

#16 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

  • File ff-tweak.png added

Change:
-More isometric-angled tap
-Cup moved 2 pixels right to keep into the area

the concept mentioned again:
Smiley - It acts as a coin to be inserted into the slot, just like a vending machine, and then a can of soda will pop out! :-)
Cup - inspired by the original sprite to hold the drinks pouring out, then enjoy it.

[22:39] <Eddi|zuHause> and the cans look too large, or not toy-style enough
[22:40] <Eddi|zuHause> i.e. "too realistic"

[22:43] <frosch123> hmm, if i would be picky, i would say the valve needs to go somewhat more to left/back
[22:43] <Eddi|zuHause> yeah, it doesn't fit the perspective

[22:48] <planetmaker> hm... some mixture between the old version and this one might be good for the can

[22:51] <Zuu> The glas in the new can-sprite looks very 2d-ish.
[22:52] <Eddi|zuHause> no, the can looks too 3d-ish
[22:52] <Zuu> I meant that the glasses are to 2d-ish.
[22:52] <frosch123> it looks just that way, so you can recognize it

The Glass goes 3D.

NOTES:

One animated pixel was shifted upwards by 1 (we don't want to loose all animation), as it was covered by the rim of the glass.
Back bottom rim of the glass is partially visible-cola somewhat semitransparent.

Based on latest nightly. I suppose it won't be difficult to simply paste it to the tweaked one which btw is very nice-thanks 2006TTD.

-

Arrow sign may need some tweaking: a-aliasing.

#20 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

Can you merge it with the tap in ff-tweak.png ? The tap has been made more isometric angled.
Never mind, I think I will deal with it.

#22 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

Look here! :-)

What was changed:
-More isometric-angled tap (This should solve issue: [22:43] <frosch123> & [22:43] <Eddi|zuHause>)
-Glass moved 2 pixels right to keep into the area (This should solve post 13)
-3D Glass by athanasios, thanks! (This should solve issue: [22:52] <Zuu>)
-Some anti-aliasing on arrow sign (This should solve post 19)

Other issues:
Regarding [22:39] <Eddi|zuHause> & [22:40] <Eddi|zuHause>,
I don't think so, since the original tower by Zuu is even larger and taller.
I think the appearance is fine, and I like the self advertising of OpenGFX too.
But if you insist, here's a toy design, some drawing or graffiti can be done on the can. Do you think it is better? Do you have any suggestions on the design/drawing on the can?
Work done. W=int(F dot dr)

About your question:

Current one is too realistic (Belugas where are you? ;-)) for toy-ish but much much better than what we had before. So let us keep it.
I suggest we use different texts in + for different liveries.
We can also change the background of the tin and even the aluminum area to a more toy-ish style, but not to waste our time we'd better do it in 32bpp.
Please note that text should be implemented by 3D (blender, etc) and not by simple hand pixel draw.

-

CAUTION: At all costs avoid the usage of patterns for dithering to avoid banding, especially on gradients (they have a usage though, but this is another story). Use error diffusion. Please read:

I have read both articles ago. And the toy version are for demonstration purposes only.
The text is also for demonstration only, well, it doesn't look too ugly in my opinion. :-)
Why not try out the newest version in fizzyRetouch.png ?

Yes, I'd prefer personally something where the tin can doesn't look as realistic as here... I like also the current painting on the tin, but it's also quite realistic. Unfortunately I don't really have much constructive advise how to find a good compromise of that.

I suggest we use different texts in + for different liveries.

We can only use different colours. It's painted in CC and a random translation used by the game.

We can also change the background of the tin and even the aluminum area to a more toy-ish style, but not to waste our time we'd better do it in 32bpp.

Well... yes and no :-) We need a decent 8bpp version, too; but that should be feasable to create from a 32bpp version in an ideal world at least.

We can only use different colours.

Of course. I was suggesting for OpenGFX+, not OpenGFX.

The cola needs some more animation...

#32 Updated by Ammler about 9 years ago

you know TTDViewer to see animation in action without OpenTTD?

#33 Updated by athanasios about 9 years ago

I didn't touch it when 3d-ing the glass. I was thinking it would be nice to have some animated pixels showing the flow of the cola.

#34 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

Some rework on the tap flow, other sprites remain unchanged.
pi1: Sprinkles in front of and on the sides of flow
pi2: Sprinkles on the sides flow only
pi3: No sprinkles, flow only

To Ammler: TTDViewer is a great tool to preview sprites, good for comparison between modifications! :-)
One thing is that I have to convert the palette with GIMP, and I need to search for the ttd palette (found it on this site). It isn't really a big problem since I use both GIMP and MS paint.

#35 Updated by athanasios about 9 years ago

IMO 1?

#36 Updated by planetmaker about 9 years ago

Definitely sprinkles everywhere ;-)

#37 Updated by 2006TTD about 9 years ago

Anymore comments? If not, this will be an unanimous decision that Number One i.e. pi1.png should be implemented.
