Shorter standard length, added templates
I was going to make turning faster too, but I think that wouldn't look good unless the amount of turning stages is reduced. I'll experiment with that a bit too; the templates are already prepared to fit. They are also rearranged, with the code adapted.

like i said previously, i couldn't get the alignment to fit properly with the 22.5° views, so i only took the 15° views for the test GRF. i'd rather keep it that way.
anyway, the images you picked miss a few blue lines at the top of each sprite, to allow for certain larger wagons like double deckers to be drawn.i suggest the following templates, for testing purposes:
"standard" templates for:
- 4lu [e.g. tenders]
- 6lu [e.g. small freight wagons]
- 8lu [e.g. larger freight wagons and some early passenger wagons]
- 10lu [e.g. some electric engines]
- 12lu [e.g. pre-war passenger wagons]
- 16lu [e.g. post-war passenger wagons]
and matching "shortened" (in - view) templates. so we could try whether that could even work out.
there's still lots to do in the code before we can start using real graphics anyway.

Just wanted to see if I could, it must work somehow (pointing to the xUSSR set).
Shortening everything only in the horizontal view will look horrible (gaps of at least 4 and up to 16 pixels with the lengths you suggested). But I suppose we could give it a spin anyway... I still prefer deviating from scale in the diagonal views.
As for the templates: I'll push them as soon as I have all lengths finished.
