Description

I thought of leaving the 'gift box' and use a 'wooden box' instead.
Wood Workshop is a freeware program for creating wood skins (Limited results as it is actually a promotion for Genetica, but it does the job and most important the license allows to use the skins you create as you like.) With the aid of some recoloring and gradients it suffices for 32bpp. Converting to 8bpp with error diffusion is satisfactory too. I will proceed the hard way again (layers...) It is time consuming but this way we can have multiple variants, and not the same sprite for all buildings.

Known issues:
Unlike paper, wood planks need at least a width of 1 pixel, so it won't be suitable for sprites that go till the edge of the tile (though these are not so many).

we still might want to add some bows or alike... or change some to the wooden boxes. Unfortunately I cannot unzip the attached zip of anasthasios (unknown format).

Maybe put it back to 100? I like the new boxes and they are in cc-very nicely done. Congratulations to the team! We might need some extra deco there, but definitely not the ugly original ribbons.

My packed file is in 7zip format: http://www.7-zip.org/
(best compression and Open Source - the 1st choice for our OpenGFX. ;-) )

I see that the patterned boxes are much better than my approach. But let us leave this file here, just in case we need it somewhere.

I like 7zip, too. In fact the compile farm on the server uses 7zip to generate the zip files. It is just not a common archive format, no plattform has installed support by default. Zip support is mostly nativ supported by most knonwn hosts. I don't want to generate different formats just to deserve all likes.

I agree, the boxes are fine enough, but not all houses are done, so it needs more, that might be why this tickets should be kept open and unfinished.

Should we stick to a similar pattern for all buildings like original grf or separate industries and use a quite different one for them to add variety?

Salut,

That may well be true but is irrelevant for me: it's simply not available for my OS as you either need a Windows or a Linux install - both of which is out of question for this computer.

That depense on contributions, if we get variety, we can include them, if not, well, then we keep it similar. ;-)

Uploaded 2 patterns. A simple striped one and a smiley one.

Hmm. Box Editor seems to add extra pixels on NE of Top. Remember to remove them manually.
