I attached a small savegame where I started off to get as many features present as possible. It's not yet finished, but if one of you needs a save, this might be better than nothing.

I added recently two test games, one for toyland climate, one for tropical climate. They might need adding additional trains, road vehicles, ships or aircrafts to see a full range of available vehicles. Both are found in the documents section.

Basically found there: http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/opengfx/documents
Add additional things, if needed.

That monorail tunnel under waterway, pretty bad...
Should be avoided in a titlescreen. Actually we need extra code to forbid it.

Can you elaborate? What is your problem and why?

Water lacks depth. Tunnel is exactly under the surface of the elevator! Same applies to road tunnel.

Well... the point of these testgames here is to have a savegame which uses every sprite of the climate so that we as devs can have a look whether our sprites work, how they look like ingame. Don't mind the filenames. The judgment of whether the map looks "realistic" is secondary to that.

That said, I disagree with your reasons or preference of placing viaducts. Given the scale of OpenTTD these are even realistic - and realism isn't even one of OpenTTD's goals.

the sprite aligner allows easy tests meanwhile... and it's moderately easy to create a game with what is needed.
