Feature #1255: New 'rocks' for toyland climate (graphics by 2006TTD)

History

#1 Updated by planetmaker almost 10 years ago

I'll definitely give it a shot and see how it looks ingame. And then I'll only judge :-)

#2 Updated by Ammler almost 10 years ago

this could be part of the temperate in toyland topic.

IMO, everything, which makes the map more toyish but doesn't hurt the eyes should go in.

Problem: Can the gumdrop be outside of the sprite, as in t109.png?
Will this cause clipping problems?

#4 Updated by planetmaker almost 10 years ago

If it's supposed to replace the rough land: definitely yes. Ground tiles must not cover more pixels than the plain ground space of the tile. OpenTTD assumes that the ground can also be over-build. As such topology on a ground tile can cause problems.

Done. Please check.

Into template.

Thanks for the templating :-).

That looked better :-), perhaps gumdrops should be in snacks, but not in sprites.
Again, I think they should be exchanged i.e. rocky = green, rough = red, as players will recognize the red rough tiles as in original TTD graphics easily, avoiding confusion.

EDIT:
After reading your post in http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=38122&p=899346#p899346
about the clustered distribution of tiles, I think your argument is also right. Maybe your arrangement is better. So never mind.

So, we consider the rocks done, now that we have the red tiles?
Shall and can we use the gum drops elsewhere?

#11 Updated by 2006TTD almost 10 years ago

Replace Lighthouse or Radio Antenna with them? They will appear much less in the map.

#12 Updated by planetmaker almost 10 years ago

Not sure. Both are buildings and the gum drops are too small IMHO to substitute them. Except if they became giant gum drops...

#13 Updated by 2006TTD almost 10 years ago

Never mind, I found out that the four climates share the same lighthouse and radio antenna sprite. Therefore it is not even possible.

#14 Updated by planetmaker almost 10 years ago

It is possible. Every climate can have its own.
We can be better than the original :-) This is one of the places which we can easily become better.

Generally, every sprite can be unique for each climate, whether it's in the original base set that way or not.
What is NOT possible, is conditionally change the look of one sprite within ONE climate, if that is not the case within the TTD base set.

Lighthouse & Radio Antenna for Toyland

#16 Updated by athanasios almost 10 years ago

Good idea. Is lighthouse animated?

#17 Updated by planetmaker almost 10 years ago

Attached a small impression how it looks ingame - which is IMHO quite nice.

The light house uses no animation colours currently; I'm not sure whether it needs it, but maybe the fire animation is worth a try for the orange bubble.

Also I noted: by default, toyland climate doesn't generate light houses or radio towers; they can be built in the SE, though.

#18 Updated by 2006TTD almost 10 years ago

Red arrow - in fire animation
Grey arrow - original

By the way, how does the radio tower look?

Nice stacker stuff ;-)

I was thinking of city buildings with different color per floor like it.

Please Google 'Stacker Toy'.

-> Inspiration for more stuff, new objects?

Hmm, we should open a new feature for opengfx+.

A suggestion for antenna is to include a head like the one here:

http://littlefishtoys.co.uk/p1136/Pintoy-Wobbly-Magnetic-Stacker-from-John-Crane/product_info.html

but + 2 antennas on top of the head.

Please could you give a try to a taller lighthouse as it seems shorter than 'normal' lighthouse? ... I made an effort on your own one (maybe I messed some action colors on the road). I cut top parts by 2 rows and last one too (so animation isn't huge) and added an extra basement floor. (Maybe it needs some pixel tweaking.)

The topic of this issue kinda changed... so it's not 100% done ;-)

I like the light house in toyland. I'm not so sure about the very straight communications tower, it's IMHO missing a bit sophistication; but I need to look at it ingame, too, I guess

#28 Updated by 2006TTD about 8 years ago

Improved the drawings of the lamp and added the handheld transceiver (walki-talki).
The sprites B and C are preferred.
